About Sophie B
Maths, English & Science tutor (varying levels)
I`m a fourth year medical student at Barts and the London, currently intercalating in pharmacology. I would love to help with GCSE biology, chemistry and maths and A-level biology and chemistry. I achieved As in these subjects at A-level and A* at GCSE so this puts me in a good position to aid with exam technique but I am also able to give students an insight into studying and researching science in the real world.
I have successfully tutored students in a tutoring centre setting using a one to one approach as every student is unique and has different needs to achieve their goals.
As each student is different, it requires slightly different approaches. The first lesson, which can be offered as a trial, is all about making an individual plan to concentrate on the areas that need work and make sure any gaps in subject knowledge are filled. During the sessions, I make sure the student is always engaged with questions and activities. I often use mnemonics and comparisons (often silly!) to help make the lesson content long term memory. I set homework after each lesson, which we go over at the beginning of the next lesson so topics are constantly being revisited, as repetition is often the best way to learn!
I am also more than happy to help with medical school applications and other personal statements. I have experience of sitting on medical school interview panels so I have a good insight into what they are looking for and what makes a good candidate.
I look forward to helping you reach your potential!
NB I am currently only offering online lessons and will be happy to look into face to face once the COVID19 outbreak is over
