About John E
Maths Tuition for younger or older students SATS and gCSE
Hi my name is John and I started as an apprentice at the age of fifteen, having left school with no formal qualifications. As many other apprentices I attended college on a day release basis for the duration of the apprenticeship.
Whilst studying for an Engineering H.N.D I developed an interest in mathematics and studied two units with the Open University which gained me an entry onto a B.Ed degree.
I have since taught Maths at secondary level for two years and for a year in an F.E College I also teach in workshop on a trade related courses.
I think it's important to understand the needs of the pupil and try to identify and target the areas where they lack understanding and try to improve on the basic building blocks first; unfortunately modern society is very demanding and there is a greater emphasis placed on achieving goals and ticking boxes than there is on the pupil actually learning.
I have some experience of working with a variety of students of all ages some with learning difficulties. On my profile I have stated GCSE level but at a pinch I could probably cover some at Advanced level.
I still take an interest in things and can some times go off on one and investigate for example prime numbers, the golden ratio or the difference between nothing and zero.
To conclude I'm an easy going guy who likes to help where possible and endeavours to adapt a flexible approach to my teaching and learning style.
