About Leo B
GCSE maths and advanced GCSE maths tutor
Reality finally struck when GCSEs were in the horizon in year 9. I realised then, that if I didn’t change now during year 10 and 11, when the all-important exams I would sit, I would not pass GCSE maths and my hopes and dreams of going to university would not come true. So, I began by asking my teachers about topics in maths that I didn’t TRULY understand. I asked them to explain me the very basics of algebra and numeracy, basics that I did not grasp at the very start of my educational journey in Primary school. Then when I really understood the basics, with the help of tackling multiple exam style questions and help from my teachers, I began seeing the fruits of my labour. At the end of my GCSE journey, I attained a well-deserved grade 6, which is a grade B. I had finally achieved the first step in my long road to reaching university. I was so happy.
So, there I was fresh out of GCSEs and about to begin the notoriously difficult A-level Maths course. In my first class of A-level Maths, the teacher did the introduction and when she was finished, she asked everyone what their grade in GCSE was. I was the only one with grade B. The rest, A’s and A*’s. Immediately, I was singled out and was told by the teacher that statistically, people who achieved less than an A in GCSE would STRUGGLE to pass maths, with the pass rate being an E. After the class I was also met with some of my class mates suggesting that I should take something else as its not meant for me. Instead of following these words of discouragement, I used it as a motivation. I asked myself “If I can make it in GCSE, why can’t I emulate that in A-LEVEL with the odds against me and this is a challenge I am going to beat”. From then on, I religiously did all I could to find as many resources to supplement my learning and get the best grade I can. From attending after school lessons to going through the extensive specification to checklist any topics that I did or didn’t understand, it all paid off after two long years. At the end of the three exams, I earned a Grade B in A-level maths, an unreachable grade that I could never have imagined myself achieving back in my GCSE years.
Now, I am about to start my degree at Swansea University doing Economics and I want to help you get the best grades in GCSE. As a student that has experienced lots of different teaching styles, I will teach you in an effective and engaging manner, and help you apply the maths in real world problems which has been ingrained in the questions of the newly reformed, forward thinking specification. I acknowledge that this will take time to get used to as the questions are not straightforward. The patience I have for you so you can do well and achieve what you deserve, I have in abundance as maths isn’t always an easy subject for many people. Also do not hesitate to ask me questions as I am available most days to go through questions you may find difficult or topics you find hard to understand. Whether it will be in algebra, statistics etc I will happy to help as I have lots of experience in dealing with various topics in the field of maths and different exam questions. I teach at ALL levels of abilities and charge £15 per hour on a one to one basis online or a home visit and for online group class of 5, £5 per head. Remember, if you are in the same position as me as I was in secondary school and want to achieve great results but need more help, I will be willing to pass on the knowledge and help grow and develop your mathematical mind to the best that it can be.
