Economics PhD and Amateur Mathematician
Sikandar Singh Soin was born in New Delhi, India and is the only child of an Indian Army officer and a high school English and History teacher. He attended several different schools owing to the nature of his fathers job and so has experienced a wide variety of pedagogical styles. He graduated with a BA in Economics, Maths and Statistics from St Xavier’s College, University of Mumbai in 2013. He received an MSc(Merit) In Economics from the University of Edinburgh in 2015. In 2015-16 he was employed at the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab. He provided research assistance to 2019 Nobel prize winning economists Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee. In 2016 he returned to the University of Edinburgh for doctoral studies. He expects to receive his PhD in 2022.
