About Ashley W
11+/13+ Entrance English Specialist/PhD History
I'm highly experienced, with over 13 years teaching, tutoring and training, and highly qualified - to PhD level (History; not complete), Cambridge ESOL-accredited and Senior Examiner for the British Council.
1. I specialise in school admissions from 11+ to 13+. My students have won places at, for example, Winchester, Epsom, St Paul's, Hampton and Caterham.
My teaching is not only focused on achieving admission to your first-choice school but also giving students the skills to thrive once there. As a child I gained admission to Manchester Grammar School (a top 10 school at that time), so am in a good position to advise on public school culture. Whether a student is in need of encouragement and confidence or is ambitious and needs challenging, I promise to deliver results, liven up the content and inspire interest. I will help your child pass entrance exams with flying colours.
2. I teach General English as a Foreign Language for all ages and levels. I’ve taught IELTS, Cambridge exams (FCE, CAE, CPE), and TOEFL, for several years and my students invariably achieve the score they require.
I can help with Professional English for native speakers and foreign-language speakers, with my background of 3 years as a recruitment consultant (before I became a teacher) I have firsthand experience. Thus, I can help write or improve your CV and help prepare you for interviews, as well as improve writing performance (emails, reports, presentations etc) in your current work.
3. GCSE and A-levels – I will help students achieve their best possible grade in English Language or History and ensure they gain entry to their college/university of choice. I can structure sessions to meet your individual goals. Moreover, I improve general study skills for all students, which raises their level across all other subjects.
4. For those who want to learn humanities, creative writing or social science without exams or a specific goal in mind – purely for interest and love of learning, this is also something I’d love to help with. I continually have such learning projects of my own, so I know how to turn this into a fun project and ensure you get the most out of it.
I've taught all ages, from primary school level to retirees, using up-to-date teaching methodology and over the years feedback shows appreciation for my positivity, approachability and dependability – please check out the reviews on my profile.
